The project ‘Room With A Viewer - the art of a night's stay’, curated by Julia Psilitelis and Lydia Karstadt, is an experimental, usable exhibition presentation. The exhibition space is transformed into a guest and hotel room furnished by artists, which can be booked for overnight stays. Each piece of furniture in the interior has been designed by one of the artists and completes the guest room. The artworks, which are placed in context with each other to form a group exhibition during the gallery's opening hours, and later a room; a place to stay overnight, were largely created especially for the project.
This ambivalent concept is continued in the thematic aspects of the project. On the one hand, the exhibition examines as a sociological experiment what it is like to spend the night in an art installation. On the other hand, it criticises Berlin's precarious housing shortage in a housing market dominated by the uncontrolled rent madness of the Senate.
The project also points to the current drastic cuts in the cultural sector by ironically demonstrating what exhibition spaces will be used for in the future and how artists can make a living according to current policy.
